Fundamental renovation of the school building and gymnasium

This imposing listed school building was originally designed as a municipal primary school by Hans Graessel (construction 1926 - 1928) forming the frontispiece of Theodor Fischer’s  new “Alte Heide” quarter (construction 1919 - 1930).

The building was conceived to encompass three building masses of varying heights arranged in a horseshoe layout. The main building housing the classrooms in a parallel arrangement to provide excellent daytime light was complemented by the gymnasium wing at the Southwestern end.

As part of the fundamental redevelopment the purpose of the room scheme was adapted or modified according to the modern needs of the school. All modifications of the existing layout, all built in fixtures as well as all changes to the façade had to be agreed and coordinated with the state heritage conservation authorities.

The entire building technology as well as the fire protection were renewed in accordance with the current regulations and standards.
