Telecommunications building Wessobrunn

Wessobrunn, Upper Bavaria, Germany
1991 - 1994

Client: Deutsche Telekom
in collaboration with Florian Aicher

Wessobrunn ranks among the locations most steeped in tradition, and the town’s stucco school from the Baroque period merits particular attention. The region is characterized by numerous monasteries and church buildings as well as stately homes dating back to these time. There are still many buildings which display the vernacular building style of this area.

In line with the client’s desire to conceal the technological nature of a highly sophisticated telecoms installation, with its concomitant degree of functionality and security, from the public eye, the shell of the building bears no reference to its content, but rather hints at the traditional building style and its local context.
